Taskin Begum, the youngest of three daughters, has endured a life marked by profound challenges and remarkable resilience. Born prematurely at just seven months, her fragile body faced the additional burden of a cleft lip, making even the most basic acts of eating a painful struggle. Her early years were shadowed by dependency, unable to perform daily tasks on her own. The loss of her father only deepened her family's sorrow, leaving them to navigate an uncertain future. Yet, amidst this adversity, a glimmer of hope emerged when the Vikas Foundation identified Taskin at the age of three.
The Vikash Foundation became a beacon of light in her life, offering not just medical care but also unwavering emotional support. They provided a thorough assessment and arranged for her cleft lip surgery at Kalinga Hospital, a complex procedure that was further complicated by her fragile health. Despite the risks, the surgery was a success, bringing her a step closer to normalcy. The Vikash Foundation’s support extended far beyond medical treatment—they secured a UDID certificate and card for her and provided speech therapy, special education, and ADLS (Activities of Daily Living Skills) training. They even facilitated her school admission and ensured she received pension benefits and stipends for girls.
With each passing day, Taskin grew stronger, her confidence blossoming as she began to socialize and integrate into the world around her. She found joy in attending school, a dream that once seemed distant. The foundation’s continuous care helped her develop the skills she needed to navigate life with greater independence. Today, Taskin aspires to stand on her own feet, driven by a deep desire to become self-reliant. Her journey, filled with both sorrow and triumph, is a testament to her incredible strength and the compassion of those who believed in her.
